Knitting

This blog is supposed to be about knitting, but since I have not yet completed my very first project..I am posting a picture of my very first rag rug. I've made more since this one and I sure wouldn't make any more like this one...but there is something special about a first project especially if it turns out halfway acceptable, which I think my rug did. I like the way it looks and it keeps my feet off the cold floor when I get up in the morning and go to bed at night.
In the picture that is my dog's nose in the lower left hand corner and my big feet (size 8 and 1/2 in the lower right. My feet are in there so you can have an idea of how big the rug is...somewhat over three feet in diameter.
I will post a knitting story. I am knitting my first pair of socks. I have taught myself to knit from some library books. I've made many false starts but I now have two socks going.
Maybe I'll post a picture of that soon One is about two inches and one about an inch and a half.
I am using the top down to the toe knitting method and using 4 double-pointed needles. Two ladies in the fabric store told me I should start with something easier, like a scarf. But I don't want a scarf...I want socks. And bullhead that I am I forged ahead. It took me hours to figure out a "long tailed cast on. " But I have done so many cast-ons now,( after starting them and messing up the knitting and ripping it all out. I must have started half dozen or more socks and torn them up) that I am hell on wheels on that cast on.
